Google has released 6 Android Q betas this year, and we’re getting close to the launch date for the first stable release. Earlier today, Google published a new Android Security Bulletin, which usually get published during the first week of every month. This bulletin is for the Android Q release, and it confirms that the minimum security patch level for the AOSP release is September 1st. That means we’ll likely see the source code drop in around 10 days so OEMs without early access to the source code can merge the patches for the disclosed security vulnerabilities. Interestingly, all of the vulnerabilities have a severity rating of “moderate,” so there are no critical bug fixes happening in this release.
Google has already made the Android 10 release available privately for its OEM partners, so this early security bulletin publication likely details all the fixes that Google and its partners made while Android Q was being privately tested.
We’re getting close to the official Q release, and we’ll let you all know as soon as it becomes available. The release will likely be made available for all Pixel smartphones including the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL, but we expect Essential to release the stable update for the PH-1 shortly after Google. Other smartphone OEMs like OnePlus and Huawei might take a few weeks, but we’ve seen how far long both brands are in customizing the next Android release to their liking.
