While some OEMs have abandoned the Android tablet market, Samsung is keeping it alive with a number of its high-end and mid-range devices. These can be slow to receive updates, but Samsung does eventually pull through and roll out at least one major version update to them. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab A were both released in 2017 and are currently getting the Android Pie OTA update. Not only does this bring the two tablets up to Android Pie, but it also includes the popular One UI design language as well.

It’s been a while since these two devices received an OTA update. We reported on the Android 8.0 Oreo update that the Galaxy Tab S3 received back in May of last year (which was one year and one month after its initial release). Sadly, they were unable to keep this year to year schedule, but now both the Galaxy Tab S3 and the 2017 Galaxy Tab A are receiving a new OTA update. We’re seeing reports of the Android Pie update landing on the LTE variant within the Malaysian region and Samsung should continue to expand as the rollout goes on.
Along with the major Android Pie goodies, these two tablets are also receiving the long-awaited One UI design style. Samsung may have had smartphones in mind when designing it but they are still able to use it to leverage the screen real estate of larger devices too. This update even includes the brand August 2019 Android security patches. Which, if you’ve been keeping up with us here at XDA, know that this fixes the new Bluetooth exploit KNOB Attack. It may take some time before this update reaches your market, but you’ll definitely want to install it (for the security patches alone) as soon as it is available to you.
