Xiaomi will launch the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro in India on July 17th

Xiaomi and its spin-off brand Redmi have always challenged top performance in every price segment with its aggressive pricing. While Redmi had long been associated with budget offerings, the brand recently stepped into the realm of flagship smartphones with the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro, which were launched in China in May. Since then, the Xiaomi India team has been teasing its launch in India and have now confirmed that the two “Killer” smartphones will be launched in India later this month.

Xiaomi India’s MD Manu Jain, as well as Redmi India, tweeted out the information and confirmed that the Redmi K20 and the K20 Pro will launch in India on July 17th. Redmi did not reveal any information about special customizations for the Indian market but we do anticipate groundbreaking pricing for the K20 Pro, which is the sub-brand’s first smartphone with Snapdragon 855. The K20, on the other hand, features a Snapdragon 730.

Apart from the differences in the processors, both the devices are identical and feature a 3D glass design on the back with an AMOLED display on the front. This display is equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor and for selfies, there’s a pop-up camera. Both the smartphones have triple cameras on the back with 48MP Sony primary sensors (K20 features an IMX582 while the K20 Pro has an IMX586).

Notably, Realme also has a launch scheduled for the third week of July, just two days ahead of the Redmi K20 launch. So the rivalry between the two brands and the online banter between their fans can be expected to escalate for the next couple of weeks. The Redmi K20 is expected to be a direct rival to the upcoming Realme X while the Redmi K20 can be expected to compete heads-on with the OnePlus 7 and the ASUS 6z in India.

Jain also took a blatant jab at OnePlus by using a using “1+7 = 17th July” in the tweet. Along with the K20 series, Xiaomi might continue forth with its tradition of surprising users and launch the Mi Band 4 in India.

Lastly, we have solid evidence that the Redmi K20 Pro will also be revealed in the global markets, just like the K20, and called the Mi 9T Pro.
