OxygenOS 9.0.4 for the OnePlus 3/3T brings June 2019 security patches

The original “flagship killer” brand, OnePlus, earned much of criticism when it pulled the plug on updates for the OnePlus 2 earlier than promised. The same mistake, however, wasn’t repeated with the successors – OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T. The OnePlus 3 was launched three years ago with Android Marshmallow while the OnePlus 3T arrived later on in the year with Android Nougat. Both of these devices have recently received a stable update to OxygenOS 9 based on Android Pie and this is not only great for these smartphones but also reassuring for the owners of OnePlus 5/5T, which is now due for retirement. More so, OnePlus is not stopping at the Pie update and has now released some more bug fixes for the OnePlus 3/3T.

Along with the performance improvements following the Pie update, the two smartphones also receive Google security patches from June 2019. The last update included security patches from April 2019 so we hope OnePlus to release more security updates for the OnePlus 3/3T once every two to three months in the future.

Furthermore, newer OnePlus devices recently received features such as Android Pie’s Digital Wellbeing and Fnatic Mode via OxygenOS Open Beta last month. After these mature to the stable builds for these smartphones, we will be in a better position to expect that they roll out to the OnePlus 3/3T as well. Meanwhile, features like Zen Mode and the Screen Recorder feature might also be available soon but if you do not wish to wait, you can use this method (courtesy of XDA senior member acervenky) to sideload the features onto your smartphone.

The company’s Product Manager Manu J. notes that the OTA update will initially be available only to a limited number of users and then through a broader channel. If you’re among the users who get the update, you can use the OnePlus Community app to give feedback about any bugs so that the company can work on fixing them before a wider roll-out.
