The TicWatch Pro was launched exactly one year ago by Mobvoi, the company founded by an ex-Googler. Previously, they had focused on affordable smartwatches, but the TicWatch Pro was a step up into premium territory. Now, they are building on that with the TicWatch Pro 4G/LTE: everything great about the original with added cellular connectivity.
On the outside, the TicWatch Pro 4G/LTE looks the same as the original. Depending on your style preference, that’s a good or bad thing. It is indeed a big, chunky watch. The LTE version is the same exact size as the original, however, it’s actually 11g lighter. It also has the same 1.4-inch AMOLED display (400 x 400 resolution). The main difference, other than cellular connectivity, is the LTE model has 1GB of RAM instead of 512MB.
One of the best features of the original TicWatch Pro was the dual-layer display. The LCD display can show the time, date, steps, heart rate, and battery all the time without killing your battery. In Essential Mode, which disables the AMOLED display, you can squeeze out 30-days of usage. There was some speculation that the TicWatch Pro 4G/LTE would feature the Snapdragon Wear 3100, but it still has the Wear 2100. That’s not as big of a deal as people were expecting it to be as the Wear 3100 hasn’t been the improvement we were hoping for.
Mobvoi has updated a few of the fitness features for the TicWatch Pro 4G/LTE. TicMotion 2.0 can automatically log your workout without you needing to manually start tracking. TicPulse can now passively monitor your heart rate 24/7, even in Essential Mode. Another new feature is cloud synchronization, which allows you to sync messaging and email notifications from your phone to your watch. Thanks to cellular connectivity, the watch can send SOS alerts from anywhere even if you don’t have your phone.
The TicWatch Pro 4G/LTE is available today from Amazon and Mobvoi’s website. For the first month, the watch is available at a discounted price of $279. After the promotional period, the price will go up to $299. 4G/LTE will be available through Verizon one month from today.
