How to enable MIUI’s dark mode on the POCO F1 and other Xiaomi phones right now

Xiaomi has been testing out a system-wide dark mode on MIUI for several devices. The Redmi Note 5 (Note 5 Pro in India) already has it in the stable build while a lot of other supported devices including the Mi 8 got the feature with MIUI global beta ROM back in May. The POCO F1, perhaps the most captivating budget flagship made by Xiaomi in the recent times, is also about to get the dark mode alongside the Redmi Note 7 Pro in the upcoming update – if not with MIUI 10, then surely with MIUI 11.

In the meantime, XDA Senior Member TrippyEngine has informed us about a backdoor to enable the system-wide dark mode on the POCO F1 or any other Xiaomi smartphone running on the stable version MIUI 10 global ROM. It requires you to run a simple ADB command and this method works even without rooting your Xiaomi smartphone.

To enable the system-wide dark mode on MIUI 10, enter the command:

adb shell settings put secure ui_night_mode 2

To disable the dark mode on MIUI 10, enter:

adb shell settings put secure ui_night_mode 1

To automatically switch the dark mode on during the night and off during the day, use:

adb shell settings put secure ui_night_mode 0

With Android Q, the option to switch on the dark mode will be added natively to Android. Since Xiaomi had already introduced the feature in MIUI 10 global beta, we hope that MIUI 10 builds based on not just Android Pie but also Oreo should get the dark mode toggle. Xiaomi has already confirmed that a system-wide dark mode will be integral to MIUI 11.

Based on previous reports, MIUI’s dark mode in beta paints the notification shade, the Recents menu, Settings, and system app such as Dialer, Contacts, Camera, Gallery, Notes, Screen Recorder, Updater, Calculator, and the SIM toolkit. With the method above, you should be able to toggle the dark mode in all of these apps listed above.
