In an attempt to make it even easier for mobile users to search for images, Google is rolling out a new “Swipe to Visit” feature to Google Image Search. This new feature is powered by AMP and it makes it easier to see the source website when you select an image. This feature was first shown off at Google I/O earlier this Summer.
“Swipe to Visit” comes into play when you select an image from the Google Image Search results. You’ll see a small preview of the AMP version of the source website peeking up from the bottom of the screen. Simply swipe up on the preview to fully load the AMP webpage. The website only receives a pageview if you swipe to open the page.
The whole idea behind the feature is to allow you to visit the source of the image as quickly as possible. AMP is a controversial product, but it does allow for webpages to load very quickly. Making it easier for users to load the source of an image should be good for website owners. Google will eventually add a tool to let publishers see the traffic from AMP in Google Images. What are your thoughts on AMP? Is this a good implementation?
