ASUS has been ramping up its efforts to release timely software updates to its smartphones. Besides last year’s flagship, the ZenFone 5/5z, Android Pie beta updates are available for the smartphones in almost-two-year-old ZenFone 4 series. Parallelly, ASUS has also rolled out stable Pie for other mid-range devices including for the ZenFone Max Pro M1, Max M2, and Max Pro M2 and now, we encounter reports of Android Pie rollout the ASUS ZenFone 5 Lite. The smartphone was launched in February 2018 with Android 7.1 Nougat and known as the ZenFone 5 Selfie Pro in parts of Europe, and as ZenFone 5Q in the U.S.
The Android Pie update for the different ASUS ZenFone 5 Lite regional variants comes with build number version WW-16.0610.1905.79. The changelog for this update only mentions an “Android P OS upgrade” for the smartphone without detailing any changes that the update brings. ASUS has been moving away from the ZenUI and bringing a near-stock Android experience to its new smartphones like the ZenFone 6 (ASUS 6z) as well as the older ones like the ZenFone 4 Max. Hence, we expect the Android Pie update to bring a stock Android experience to the ZenFone 5 Lite devices.
ASUS notes that the update will be available in batches to users in different regions. So, it might take days or weeks before the update is available to all the users. If you wish to install the update manually, you can:
- download the packages linked below,
- place the ZIP in the root directory of your smartphone’s internal storage. This should have multiple files inside it but if it has just one i.e. another ZIP file, then extract the outer ZIP and place it in the internal storage. You may visit this page for a pictorial guide.
- The system will automatically detect an update package and prompt you to update your ZenFone 5 Lite.
