ARCore by Google is tasked with bringing the Augmented Reality experience to Android devices without needing specialized and dedicated hardware, unlike the erstwhile Project Tango. ARCore brings AR capabilities to supported devices in a unified manner, and Google also maintains a list of supported devices for easy reference. Now, the Xiaomi Mi 9 and the Sony Xperia 1 have received official Google ARCore support, while the ASUS ZenFone 6 also supports the same.

While the ASUS ZenFone 6 (or the ASUS 6z, as it is known in India) does not make an appearance on the official list, it does indeed support ARCore. We confirmed the same by sideloading the latest ARCore APK, which worked out flawlessly in our experience. So it is just a matter of time before Google whitelists the device and allows ZenFone 6 users to directly download the app from the Play Store.
Other recent additions to the Google ARCore family include the OnePlus 7 Series of devices, the Google Pixel 3a and Google Pixel 3a XL, Huawei P30 and P30 Pro, LG G8 and LG V50, and many more. This allows end consumers so much more choice in terms of hardware if they wish to experience AR, as ARCore uses APIs to enable phones to sense their environment, understand the world and interact with the information. Some of the APIs are available across Android as well as iOS to enable shared AR experiences, which is a plus for developers who are developing these experiences. With ARCore installed, you can install a port of Google Playground (AR Stickers) to have some fun stickers to play around with on your modern smartphone.
