The Huawei P30 series and 14 other Huawei devices will get Android Q

These are complicated times for Huawei and Huawei fans. The US trade ban has put the company’s future in limbo and consumers rightfully have a lot of questions. To combat some of the rumors and speculation, Huawei has published a “Huawei Answers” page to formally respond to some of the concerns. There’s good news in these responses for Huawei fans who want EMUI 10 and Android Q.

Huawei responds to a handful of common “rumours” that have popped up about the current situation. “Huawei smartphones and tablets will no longer get software or security updates; Huawei users will not be able to download or use apps like WhatsApp, Facebook or Instagram; Huawei will no longer sell smartphones,” etc. The last rumor that Huawei addresses is “The P30 & the P30 Pro won’t get access to Android Q.” The answer is good news for a lot of Huawei device owners.

We are confident that our most popular devices, including the P30 series, will be able to access Android Q. We have been working with third parties for many months to ensure devices will be able to receive Android Q updates. Technical preparations and testing has already begun for over 17 devices. In fact our Mate 20 Pro has already been given approval to receive Android Q as and when it is released by Google.

Here is the list of the products we have submitted to upgrade to Android Q

In addition to the devices listed above, Android Authority reports that the Honor 20, Honor 20 Pro, and Honor 20 Lite will also receive in Android Q along with other Honor devices. There’s no timeline given for any of these updates. It’s also worth noting that this news comes from Huawei’s UK website and the regions that will get these updates are unknown. Still, this is good news for anyone who owns these devices and was left wondering about their future. Be sure to check out our look at EMUI 10 to see what is in store.

Note: Huawei/Honor has stopped providing official bootloader unlock codes for its devices. Therefore, the bootloaders can’t be unlocked, which means that users cannot root or install custom ROMs.
