OPPO spin-off brand Realme announced back in April that an Android Pie update with ColorOS 6 will roll out for multiple of its devices in June. On schedule, the brand has already started rolling out the update to Realme 2 Pro users in India.
ColorOS 6 brings a new design, swipe gestures, an app drawer to the launcher, optimized touch response, Game Boost 2.0, and more features on top of the standard Android Pie platform features. Realme CEO Madhav Sheth teased the inclusion of the HyperBoost feature from the Realme 3 Pro in the ColorOS 6 feature, though the changelog for the Realme 2 Pro’s update makes no mention of it. However, the 2 Pro is getting the Realme 3‘s Chroma Boost feature which is supposed to enhance the colors of pictures. Another interesting feature in the update is support for Camera HAL3, which is not required for the Android Pie release but is a prerequisite for Camera2 API support. For enthusiasts, this means Google Camera ports can be installed without needing to root, but of course, just having Camera2 API support doesn’t guarantee that any modified Google Camera app will work on your device.
The full changelog for the 2.71GB update with the May 2019 security patches can be found below.
The OTA update is rolling out now in waves, though some users are reporting that the update is soft bricking their devices. In response, Realme has published instructions on how to recover from the bootloop. If you haven’t already, we recommend you unlock the bootloader so you can install TWRP and make backups.
