OnePlus 7’s OxygenOS 9.5.5 update brings May security patches and camera improvements

The OnePlus 7 Pro stole much of the limelight at the OnePlus’ mega launch event last month because of its more premium and radical design, triple rear cameras, 90Hz display, and 30W Warp Charge (read more in our in-depth review). But the OnePlus 7 which, despite borrowing its aesthetic appeal from the OnePlus 6T, comes with the same processing power as the 7 Pro, the same 48MP primary rear camera, and UFS 3.0 storage is clearly the more appealing choice if you’re looking for more bang for your buck. To keep both the devices at par, OnePlus recently released a software update for the OnePlus 7, adding DC Dimming and the Fnatic mode. Now, the smartphone is getting another update which improves the camera’s performance in many ways.

The 125MB update fixes the color accuracy and the contrast of the images taken with the smartphone’s camera. It also refines the auto-focus by improving its stability and accuracy. For the Nightscape mode, the clarity and the color of the photographs taken at night have been enhanced. Furthermore, OnePlus claims to have made certain improvements in terms of images taken in very low lighting conditions.

In the past week, similar improvements were also made to the OnePlus 7 Pro’s camera. Although the Pro variant was rated to feature one of the best cameras by DxOMark, many users complained about inconsistencies in certain areas of the camera’s performance. Thus, this update closes the gap between the two devices a little further.

Apart from the improvements in the camera, the update also brings Google’s security patches from May 2019. Besides this, there are some general bug fixes to improve the performance and the stability of the interface. The OnePlus 7 went on sale last week and if you’ve bought it recently, you can expect to receive the update in a few days.
