OnePlus 7/7 Pro get 2nd Android Q developer preview

Over the last few years, Google has continued to work closely with OEMs in an attempt to get major version updates out to devices as quickly as possible. We have watched this effort grow to the point where 21 different devices have been slated to receive the 3rd Android Q beta. OnePlus is one of the companies that have partnered with Google to get early versions of Android running on some of its latest devices. Current OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro owners are now able to manually install what they are calling the Android Q Developer Preview 2.

We were a bit bummed to hear that the latest stable OnePlus 7 Pro OxygenOS update only included last month’s security patches. Still, that doesn’t mean OnePlus hasn’t been working on the smartphone’s software. Along with the stable version of OxygenOS they are also working on Android Q for it as well. The developers were ready to push out the first developer preview of the beta software to OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro owners during the second half of last month.

Almost 4 weeks later and they are ready to test out the second developer preview for its latest two devices. The first thing OnePlus does in this announcement is to remind everyone that this developer preview is “best suited for developers and early adopters.” Even though it’s the second developer preview of Android Q for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, there’s still the risk of bricking your smartphone so be sure to follow their instructions. It also means that some features are not working in this firmware either.

As of right now, the current list of known issues includes Reading Mode not working, Display Mode not working, a broken verification window for WiFi anonymous connections, and some stability related issues. You’re able to test out this new software on OnePlus’ latest smartphones using the local upgrade method within OxygenOS (but be aware that you will lose all the data you have stored on your device).
