In the context of India, Motorola can be best described as the company that inaugurated the entry of price-effective smartphones when it introduced the OG Moto G in the country back in 2014. Backed by Motorola’s popularity in India from yesteryears of non-smart mobile phones, it sold like hot cakes. But with the eventual entry of Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Motorola succumbed to the competition and is now reduced to only a very small percentage of the market share. This hasn’t stopped the company from innovating and experimenting but since the average Indian consumer would easily trade exciting features like the support Moto mods for practicality, the has been realigning its priorities for the country. Last year, Motorola brought the Motorola One Power with a large 5,000mAh battery, a durable metal build, Snapdragon 636 and an attractive price. Next in line of Motorola’s Android One devices is the Motorola One Vision, which comes with a more premium design, 48MP camera, an unusually tall hole punch display.

The first striking aspect of the Motorola One Vision is its 21:9 Full HD+ hole punch display. This towering display grants the Motorola One Vision a distinctive length-to-breadth ratio, which should allow the users to grip the smartphone easily with a single hand. Motorola says that the ultra-wide “CinemaVision” display will offer an immersive movie-viewing experience to users. The hole punch on the top left corner of this display eliminates the requirement of a notch, still leaving a lot of room for the cinematic experience that Motorola has been vouching for. The display is protected under Gorilla Glass but the version is not specified.
The next major highlight of the smartphone is in its name itself. The Motorola One Vision features a 48MP primary camera sensor with OIS. The Camera app, which is by Motorola itself, comes with AI scene optimizations, high-res zoom, a Night Vision mode, a host of portrait lighting effects. The sensor in use is the Samsung ISOCELL GM1 which is paired with an f/1.7 lens and supports 4-in-1 pixel binning technology for images with better lighting. On the front, there’s a 25MP sensor inside the hole punch which also supports Motorola’s Quad Pixel (pixel binning) tech for richer details in low light.
For performance, the Motorola One Vision is powered by an octa-core Samsung Exynos 9609 SoC. This chipset is similar to the Exynos 9610 but is 100MHz lower in terms of frequency for both the high-performance and the power-efficient clusters. Paired with this chipset is a 4GB of RAM. Additionally, the smartphone features 128GB UFS storage which can be expanded via a hybrid slot.
The Motorola One Vision also features a 3500mAh battery along and it supports turbo-charging at 15W. In terms of the software experience, Motorola has done minimal additions over the stock Android One UI and these include the custom Moto Camera app, the Moto Display for lockscreen notifications, Moto Actions like the twist of the wrist to open the camera app or chopping gesture to turn on the flashlight, and lastly the new Motorola navigation gestures which have been improved over Android Pie‘s gestures. While the One Vision comes with Android Pie out of the box, the company is promising OS updates up to Android R along with three years of security updates. Besides that, there’s unlimited storage on Google Photos but for high-quality images instead of full resolution.
The Motorola One Vision is priced at ₹19,999 (~$290 ) in India exclusively via Flipkart. The only variant of the smartphone goes on sale in India starting June 27th.
