Privacy is the biggest focus of the Firefox browser. The company behind the product, Mozilla, has been hard at work improving the security measures for users to have the most secure experience possible. The newest version of Firefox includes even more of those.
If you download the Firefox browser as a new user, you will find that Enhanced Tracking Protection service will be set to the Standard setting by default. What this means is that the browser will now block third-party trackers. The list of those cookies and trackers is provided by Disconnect, based on community feedback and manual reviews. Next time you open a website, keep an eye out for info and shield icons, which highlights that there are blockable trackers on the page. Enhanced Tracking Protection will be enabled for current Firefox users in the coming months. You can enable it manually by opening the browser and navigating to Menu > Content Blocking.
If you’ve ever heard of Facebook’s shadow profiles, you can now be sure that the company will have a hard time creating them. Firefox’s Facebook Container add-on now blocks Like and Share buttons by the social media giant. These buttons are known for sending tracking data back and forth between various sites and Facebook itself. Open Firefox and navigate to this link if you want to install Facebook Container.
Firefox Lockwise also got updated. It now has a desktop version in the form of an add-on. To refresh your mind, Lockwise is a mobile application for saving and managing your passwords. In the previous coverage, I talked about some of the flaws of the service. Unfortunately, all of them are also present in the desktop version, so keep those in mind.
Firefox also launched a new breach monitoring service powered by Have I Been Pwned. It checks your emails for potential data breaches. You can sign up to receive notifications about breaches in real-time to act fast. Here is the link for Firefox Monitor.
