The Redmi Note 5 series, launched back in February 2018, was one of the most popular devices sold by Xiaomi in India. Within the first four months of their launch, the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro crossed the 5 million figure in the country alone. The more powerful of the two, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro (globally known as Redmi Note 5 aka whyred) was more popular of the two due to its superior specs including dual camera setup. This is why it received more attention from the company in terms of software updates and is now getting another major update. Alongside the Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi is also taking due care of the Redmi Note 6, which arrived later last year as an incremental update over the former. At the same time 2017’s Xiaomi Mi Note 3 is getting an update too.

Launched with Android 7.1.2 Nougat, the Redmi Note 5 Pro received MIUI 10 beta based on Android Pie in March and is now getting stable Android Pie update for the smartphone. While Indian users shall be receiving the update in the coming days or weeks, the ROM is up for download. You can install the update by using the MIUI Updater or the Mi Flash tool.

In the meantime, the Redmi Note 6 Pro, the successor to the Redmi users in India are also getting the stable Android Pie update. Last month, we spotted the update for the global units of the Redmi Note 6 Pro but the firmware may differ slightly in the case of Indian users. This is because Xiaomi has baked many India-specific features like automatic SMS sorting and calendar reminders into the Indian MIUI ROMs. You can grab the update from the link below.

Additionally, Xiaomi is also rolling out Android Pie beta for the Xiaomi Mi Note 3, which was released way back in 2017 as a bigger avatar of the flagship Mi 6 but with a lesser powerful Snapdragon 660 SoC. Xiaomi promised to launch the Pie update for the Mi Note 3 within Q2 of 2019 and while this is not the stable update, the beta is good enough for a start.

Do note that Xiaomi’s nasty anti-rollback restrictions (read more) are applicable on the update for Mi Note 3 and you will not be able to revert back to Oreo. If you try to do so, you will end up with a hard-bricked Mi Note 3, so make sure you weigh the consequences before getting on with the update. Meanwhile, if you want to lay your hands on a more stock-ish software experience, unofficial LineageOS 16 based on Android 9 Pie is also available for the Mi Note 3.
