Mobile gaming saw a nice boost in recent years thanks to new AAA gaming titles and the growing “gaming phone” segment. Gaming giants like Epic Games and other companies are heavily investing in the platform and seeing some respectable returns, too. Indie developers are also hard at work developing new games for Android and iOS. But, sometimes they try porting these games to PC, too. This task requires loads of resources, both financially and intellectually. One recognizable name in the industry, BlueStacks, just announced their new plan to help developers turn mobile games into “native” PC games.
You’ve probably heard of BlueStacks from their Android emulator. It is one of the most popular solutions to run Android apps on PC. Some people even use it to play Android games and gain a huge advantage over mobile players. The company just released a new SDK named “BlueStacks Inside,” which will help developers take their games to Steam and Discord, meaning that they will run on virtually every capable personal computer.
This will allow developers to attract a whole new audience that is PC gamers. The Head of Global Operations at gaming company Funplus, Mike Peng, states that thanks to BlueStacks Inside, developers will also get higher Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). The reasoning behind this is PC gamers are often more loyal than mobile users, despite the fact that these two mostly overlap. The SDK will also let you replace the Play Store payment system with Steam’s system for PC gamers to enjoy in-app purchases.
KOG, Funplus, and Fabled Game Studio are the first companies to participate in the soft launch of BlueStacks Inside. Thanks to the SDK, Fabled Game Studio was already able to publish their Pirates Outlaws game on iOS, Android, and PC. We are expecting more and more developers to join the party.
