As expected, this year’s Google I/O conference was kicked with the announcement about the third beta preview of Android Q, which brings new iPhone-like navigation gestures, a quick toggle for system-wide dark theme, and some security improvement to the Pixel devices. Along with that, Google also announced that the Android Q beta will be available for almost 20 non-Pixel devices from Asus, OnePlus, Sony, Xiaomi, Realme, and half a dozen other brands. Under this public roll-out, the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T are getting the latest preview builds for Android Q and after their launch, the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro will also receive support for the developer preview.

OnePlus has cautioned that the Android Q beta for Android device is still in its early stage of development and is best suited for developers and early adopters. Flashing this build is only recommended to users, especially developers, who wish to test their apps targetted at Android Q but cannot afford to buy the latest Google Pixel device.

For now, the available OxygenOS builds based on Android Q beta have a number of issues. As a result, the camera, among other half-baked features, might not function as intended. The portrait mode on the camera is broken too. Additionally, the UI on the beta builds for OnePlus 6/6T might undergo unwarranted crashes and apps might not be fully functional.
The Android Q developer preview builds for the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T are already available and we presume that the same will be rolled out for the OnePlus 7 series with its launch on May 14. If you want to try out the beta on your OnePlus smartphone, grab the firmware ZIP files from the links below and head over to Settings>System>System Updates. Then, tap on the icon in the top right corner, select Local Upgrade, followed by the ZIP to be flashed.
