The Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro will feature a new “Dynamic Holographic Design”

Honor, Huawei’s sub-brand with a focus on online sales, has lately been trying to attract young consumers with striking and unique designs. Whether it is the dual-texture layout on its mid-ranger Honor 8X or the shimmery arrows on the Honor View20, the company is always trying to put out something new and peculiar to attract more customers. As it prepares to launch the Honor 20 series on May 21st, Honor claims that it has mastered a “Dynamic Holographic Design” for a 3D optical illusion which resembles light entering into the ocean.

For this holographic effect, Honor is using a two-stage process to create the 3D curved glass back for the Honor 20 series. On the first stage, Honor etches millions of prisms on the surface of the back to replicate the same reflective effect like diamonds. This etching is done at the nanometer level to ensure create more precise cuts compared to laser cutting.

In the second stage, the color dye and the curved glass top are placed over this engraved surface. As a result of the compounding effect of these three layers, the back of the Honor 20 smartphones exhibits a “depth-inducing” optical effect. Honor says that only one out of five backs made with this process meet its standards of craftsmanship but the company is determined to offer a unique experience to its consumers. This may be an extension to Huawei’s artistic endeavors for the colors of the Huawei P30 Pro that were inspired by natural crystals and the night sky.

From previous leaks, we learned that the Honor 20 Pro will sport a hole-punch cutout on the top left corner the display for the selfie camera, much like the Honor View20. For the upcoming smartphone, Honor is likely to use a 6.26-inch display, although we’re short of information on the resolution or the type of technology.

In terms of the cameras on the back, Honor is likely to use the same L-shaped design for the camera assembly. While leaks have pointed towards a design with triple rear cameras, the extensive use of the number 4 on the launch invitation suggests that Honor could use a quad camera setup on the Honor 20, similar to the Huawei P30 Pro.

We’ll update you as we learn more about the smartphone but for now, here are all the rumors about the Honor 20 that we know:

Note: Huawei has stopped providing official bootloader unlock codes for its devices. Therefore, the bootloaders of their devices cannot be unlocked, which means that users cannot root or install custom ROMs.
