Oppo, the leading brand of BBK Electronics, has been pumping out very, very interesting devices as of recently. Last year’s Oppo Find X was the first smartphone to kickstart the trend of moving cameras without notches, a trend that has since been joined by major players such as Xiaomi, OnePlus, and even Samsung. And this year’s Oppo Reno looks into continuing this trend by introducing an even stranger approach. It has a pop-up camera in a similar fashion to the OnePlus 7 Pro and the Xiaomi Redmi K20, but it employs a swivel “shark fin” mechanism instead, and it looks more aesthetically pleasing.
Both the Oppo Reno and the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom, their higher-end model, are testaments to Oppo’s design quality, and while they’re already pretty appealing design-wise, the phone is now becoming available in 2 new color options, including a new Coral option that pretty much looks like orange and an “Inspiration” edition, which we’re guessing will serve more like a “limited” or “special” edition than anything else, with dark blue and purple hues and plenty of drawings and golden details. Even the box and paperwork is adorned in these details, and it also includes a series of special stickers too.
Additionally, a new lower-end variant of the device was also released, the Oppo Reno Z. It drops most of the stuff that made the Oppo Reno appealing in the first place: the swivel camera is replaced for a regular teardrop notch, and the Snapdragon 710 in the regular Oppo Reno is replaced for a MediaTek Helio P90 chipset. The storage/RAM options also seem awkward: there is a 6GB RAM version with 256 GB of storage, but the 8GB RAM model actually downgrades the storage down to 128GB. Odd decision, to say the least.
Other specs include a 4,035 mAh battery, 20W VOOC 3.0 charging, and Android Pie based ColorOS 6. The Reno Z will be available in Night Black, Star Purple, Bead White, Coral Orange colors. Sales begin on June 6th for CNY 2,499 ($362) in China. What do you think about Oppo’s new offerings? Let us know down in the comments.
