OnePlus 7 Pro Accessories Review: Cases, Bullets Wireless 2 earbuds, and Warp Charge 30 Car Charger

At 3 launch events held simultaneously in London, New York, and Bengaluru, OnePlus launched the OnePlus 7 Pro. OnePlus’ new flagship has a QHD+ 90Hz display, almost no bezels, no notch, a pop-up selfie camera, triple rear camera, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, UFS 3.0 storage, and much more. With so much to offer, the OnePlus 7 Pro is arguably the best smartphone released so far this year. But a great smartphone isn’t the only product that OnePlus is releasing today. To complement the new OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus is launching two cases, the new Bullets Wireless 2 Bluetooth wireless earbuds, and the Warp Charge 30 Car Charger.

OnePlus 7 Pro Cases

The original OnePlus One was iconic for its sandstone back cover. At a time when smartphone design felt uninspired and the build materials were cheap and prone to smudges, the sandstone back of the OnePlus One was a breath of fresh air. Although the OnePlus 7 Pro doesn’t come with a sandstone back cover, OnePlus is once again offering an official sandstone case as an accessory. The case not only offers protection on the left and right sides, but it also provides a lot of extra grip. The case doesn’t cover the top or bottom of the phone, but it does extend past the camera bump. If you have sweaty or oily hands and want a bit of extra protection for your OnePlus 7 Pro, the sandstone protective case is for you.

The second case is also my personal favorite: the Nylon Bumper case. It also provides a lot of grip, but the texture on the rear isn’t as rough so your fingers can slide over it. The Nylon Bumper case also protects all sides of the OnePlus 7 Pro while retaining cut outs for the pop-up camera, alert slider, and triple rear cameras.

If you’re looking to save a few bucks after spending a few hundred on the OnePlus 7 Pro, you can always pick up a third-party case from Amazon or eBay. If you do so, you’ll get what you pay for. In my experience, no third-party cases match the quality of the cases that OnePlus offers. Among smartphone brands, I would even say the OnePlus makes the best first-party cases. You can’t go wrong with either option here.

Bullets Wireless 2 Earbuds

OnePlus is following up on their highly successful Bullets Wireless earbuds with the new Bullets Wireless 2. These Bluetooth wireless earbuds support audio playback for up to 14 hours, according to OnePlus. The Bullets Wireless 2 isn’t truly wireless like the Galaxy Buds or Apple AirPods, but I prefer the neckband on the Bullets because it prevents me from ever losing it. Since the earbuds also magnetically connect, I can remove the earbuds from my ears and let the Bullets hang around my neck if I need to focus on my surroundings. The earbuds themselves fit snugly into my ears, but your mileage may vary. If the original earpieces don’t fit, there are 3 other sizes you can choose from in the box.

The neckband has a piece with standard media controls (play/pause/next/previous and volume up/down) and a piece with a button for pairing and Type-C port for charging. When the earbuds snap together, media playback automatically ends. When you pull the earbuds apart, the Bullets automatically tries to connect to the last connected device.

The Bullets come with a pouch that I feel is a bit too small. You’ll need to master the proper technique for storing the Bullets because it’s a rather tight fit.

Like the original Bullets, the new Bullets Wireless 2 works with any device that supports Bluetooth, but some of its best features are only supported on select devices. The best audio streaming quality, for example, is available for any smartphone that supports Qualcomm’s aptX HD Bluetooth audio codec. Fast Pair lets you quickly set up the new Bullets Wireless 2 on any smartphone with Android 5.0+. If you own a OnePlus smartphone running OxygenOS in particular, you get access to more controls from the “Earphone mode” settings page.

I haven’t talked about the best feature on the Bullets Wireless 2: support for Warp Charge 30. In my review of the OnePlus 7 Pro, I measured how quickly the smartphone charges with the 30W Warp Charge 30 power brick and cable. That same power brick and cable works for the Bullets Wireless 2, though the earbuds come with a smaller cable if you need it. OnePlus advertises 10 minutes of charge time for 10 hours of playback. To test this, I brought the Bullets Wireless 2’s battery down as low as I could through continuous media playback and then charged it for exactly 10 minutes. I connected the earbuds to my phone and played music from Google Play Music at 100% volume on both the earbuds and the phone until the Bullets disconnected and turned off. The Bullets lasted an impressive 9 hours and 7 minutes before I needed to charge them again. This is even more impressive when considering that most users don’t listen to music at maximum volume. Warp Charge 30 on the Bullets Wireless 2 solves the biggest problem with Bluetooth earphones.

The earbuds cost $99 which is cheaper than both the Galaxy Buds and Apple AirPods. Are they worth the price? If you do enough online research, you might find a pair of Bluetooth earbuds that are a better value. If you just want a nice pair of earbuds with great Bluetooth quality, excellent battery life, and extremely quick wired charging, then you can’t go wrong with the Bullets Wireless 2.

Warp Charge 30 Car Charger

Since you can’t use the original Warp Charge 30 power brick in your car, OnePlus is offering a car charger that implements their new, proprietary fast charging protocol.

Design

The car charger has a sleek look with a metallic build. One end plugs into the cigarette lighter in your car while the other is a full-size USB port that supports the Warp Charge 30 cable.

Driving Mode

If you plug your OnePlus 7 Pro into the car charger, OxygenOS’ new driving mode is activated. The mode lets you automatically turn on Do Not Disturb mode or launch a specified app.

The notification is a little annoying because it never goes away, even after setting up driving mode for the first time.

Charging Speed Test

How fast is the car charger? Well, it’s exactly as fast as you’d expect. It supports 30W fast charging, but the main benefit here is that it keeps your phone relatively cool while charging. I did two charging tests with the car charger: one when the phone’s screen is off (no stress) and another with the phone at 50% brightness while navigating in Google Maps and streaming from Google Play Music (stress). Even in the Texas heat, the phone’s battery temperature never approached dangerous levels.

Minimum Temperature (°C) 38.1 37.2 (2.36% decrease)

The car charger brings Warp Charge 30 to your daily commute – that’s about it. If your job involves long commutes, then the new car charger is definitely a worthy buy.

Conclusion

OnePlus has once again nailed their first-party accessories. The cases for the OnePlus 7 Pro feel premium and provide a lot of extra grip. The Bullets Wireless 2 fit well, sound great, last long, and charge really quickly. Lastly, the Warp Charge 30 Car Charger brings OnePlus’ latest fast wired charging technology to your vehicle.
