bxActions 6.0 adds per-app Bixby button remapping, camera shutter action, and more

Two years ago, Samsung introduced us to Bixby, their take on a personal virtual assistant for all Samsung Experience users. Most of the discussions surrounding the topic of Bixby on the Samsung Galaxy S8 was about it having a dedicated Bixby button, which (initially) couldn’t be remapped drifted slightly towards the negative.

Back to the present, now, Samsung allows for the dedicated Bixby button to be remapped (kinda). However, it is still very much riddled with restrictions and there seems to be no exclusive support for assistant apps. All the actions compatible with the button as of now, officially, happen to be and affect the entirety of the OS.

For those of you who see that as a problem, XDA Senior Member Jawomo went ahead and developed an application in his spare time. Named “bxActions,” Jawomo’s application lets all users remap the Bixby button with many more options. What’s unique about bxActions is the fact that not only does it allow its users to set actions specific to various applications (say, taking a screenshot using the button in the Browser or using the button as a camera shutter), it works with long press and double tap for the Bixby button.

bxActions 6.0 Changelog:

  • Custom per app remapping!
  • Camera shutter button!
  • Google assistant on lockscreen!
  • Rotation landscape and portrait
  • Added PC upgrade page
  • Mark options which need PC
  • Full remap optimizations
  • Stability improvements
  • Fixes and optimizations
