Optical zooming on smartphones could not only become a vogue but also a major selling point for in 2019. The Huawei P30 Pro has drawn a lot of attention with its 10X hybrid zoom and now, the OPPO Reno 10X zoom edition is set to share its limelight. After several rounds of leaks and teasers, OPPO has finally announced a new series called Reno with two new smartphones – OPPO Reno 10X Zoom Edition and Reno Standard Edition. Both of the smartphones feature full view OLED displays without any notches and the selfie camera is placed in a peculiar side-swing pop-up mechanism, which was also leaked recently.
OPPO Reno 10X Zoom Edition
The OPPO Reno 10X Zoom Edition is equipped with a colossal 6.6-inch display which is protected by Gorilla Glass 6. The display occupies 93.1% of the body’s surface area and produces efficient colors to support 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. It also houses an in-display fingerprint scanner which is 28.5% faster than the previous generations.
Coming to the rear camera, the OPPO Reno 10X Zoom Edition uses a 48MP Sony IMX586 as the primary sensor, paired with a 13MP zoom setup, and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. Like the P30 Pro, the OPPO Reno 10X uses a periscopic setup to accommodate the multi-lens setup. The smartphone also supports 4K video recording at 60fps and uses all the three microphones for capturing the video with a 3D surround sound effect.
The side-swing pop-up houses the 16MP front-facing camera along with an earpiece and a selfie flash. It also features the rear flash, which can be ejected within 0.8 seconds. Additionally, the smartphone supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging to power up the 4065mAh battery.
For flagship-grade performance, the OPPO Reno 10X is powered by a Snapdragon 855 chipset which is coupled with 6GB or 8GB of RAM. The smartphone runs on ColorOS 6 out-of-the-box, featuring options like Touch Boost and Frame Boost as part of Game Boost 2.0 for heightened gaming performance.
Lastly, OPPO will also announce a 5G variant of the OPPO Reno 10X within the second quarter of the year. The company is expected to hold an event in Switzerland on April 24 which is when we can expect to learn more about the 5G variant.
OPPO Reno Standard Edition
The OPPO Reno Standard Edition, which earlier surfaced as the Lite variant, is the more affordable device out of the two. It comes with a Snapdragon 710 chipset along with 6GB or 8GB RAM variants. The Standard Edition uses a smaller 6.4-inch OLED screen but the design is almost identical. This one too features a side-swing pop-up camera to ensure that a notch doesn’t butcher the symmetry of the design and the same 16MP selfie camera.
In terms of the primary camera, the OPPO Reno is equipped with the same Sony IMX586 48MP sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor. The Standard variant gets only two cameras compared to the three cameras on the Reno 10X variant.
