At an event in China, Lenovo has launched the Lenovo Z6 Pro, the successor to the Z5 Pro that was launched merely six months ago. Unlike the Z5 Pro that clearly focused more on the design than the internals, the Z6 Pro packs in enough of a punch inside to ensure that it is at least a contender in the top-performing smartphone category.

The Lenovo Z6 Pro is an interesting device, especially because of its internals. But the externals of the device are impressive in their own right, even if commonplace across the market by now. The phone features thin bezels (though official device renders tend to be deceptive) and a water drop notch to house the front camera. The display features an in-display fingerprint sensor, which we presume is an optical sensor and not an ultrasonic sensor, and has a bigger recognition area, faster unlock support and the ability to detect wet fingers. The AMOLED display on the Z6 Pro also supports features like DCI-P3 color gamut, DC Dimming, and HDR 10. Lenovo also claims that it added “PC-grade Coldfront liquid cooling system” to the device for better heat dissipation, though it does not go into further details about this.

On the inside, the Z6 Pro comes with the latest flagship processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. To complement this, Lenovo has created variants with RAM up to 12GB and storage up to 512GB, allowing you to get a rather beefed-up phone. You also get other features like dual SIM support, dual-frequency GPS, aptX HD audio codec support, Dolby Atmos support and a USB Type-C port. The 4,000 mAh battery supports 27W fast charging and reverse charging too. Since Lenovo has not mentioned “reverse wireless charging” specifically, we presume reverse charging to take place through the Type-C port.

One of the talking points of the device will be its camera setup, which is all geared up to pack a powerful punch. The whole system is “AI-powered,” and Lenovo has thrown in everything that it could in terms of hardware. The top camera is the 16MP wide angle shooter, followed by the regular 48MP camera, then an 8MP telephoto camera, and a dedicated 2MP camera for video enhancements. There’s also ToF sensors present besides the dual-LED flash, and the phone also comes with PDAF and OIS. We do know that camera hardware is just one part of the story, so Lenovo has packed in features like Super Night Scene, Super Macro, Super Wide Angle and more as software features. Hopefully, the device can stand its ground against established players which sport simpler camera hardware.

Lenovo Z6 Pro runs on Android Pie with ZUI 11 on top, which includes software enhancements like Game Turbo mode, and more.

The Lenovo Z6 Pro begins at CNY 2,899 (~$430) for the 6GB+128GB variant, CNY 2,999 ($450) for the 8GB+128GB variant and CNY 4,799 ($715) for the 12GB + 512GB variant. The phone will go on sale in China on April 29, 2019, and it will be available in Red and Green color variants. Lenovo also plans to bring a 5G varint of the Z6 Pro to China, though details are sparse on this at this stage. It is also unknown if and when this device will be available in other international markets.
