Xiaomi’s POCO F1 is definitely one of the most power-packed smartphones for its price but this virtue hasn’t stopped Xiaomi from adding newer features to the smartphone. Since the launch of the POCO F1, Xiaomi has not only worked on improving the “MIUI for POCO” experience for users, it has also promoted independent development, starting with the instant release of kernel codes. The pace of development hasn’t receded since and in the last few months, Xiaomi has introduced many handy features like the super slo-mo video mode at 960fps, direct Google Lens integration within MIUI camera app, support for HD video streaming via Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, and even the Game Turbo feature from Xiaomi Mi 9.
Last month, we also witnessed a system-wide dark theme being tested on a closed MIUI 10 beta for the POCO F1. Now, we have learned that the system-wide dark theme is rolling out to a wider batch of POCO F1 users with the latest open beta available worldwide. With this new feature, users can choose to “use darker color palette for system backgrounds and compatible apps.”
The feature can be activated in MIUI 10 global beta bearing build number 9.3.25 by heading over to Settings>Display. On this page, you can find the toggle for Dark Mode under the Ambient Display option.
The dark theme applies to volume controls, notification and quick settings shade, Recents menu beside a slew of system apps on the POCO F1. At the time of the closed beta, we saw that the dark theme applied to system apps such as Calculator, Contacts, Gallery, Messaging, Notes, Phone, Screen Recorder, and Updater. Aside from these apps, the feature also applied to some of the sub-menus in Settings, even though some of the main Settings page seemed to excluded at the time. That has been fixed now, as you can see in the screenshots above.
If you wish to try out how the dark theme plays on your POCO F1, you can go ahead and download the firmware ZIP file from the link below. The update package weighs at 1.8GB and is based on Android 9 Pie.
To install the update, transfer the ZIP file to your device and go to Settings>About phone>System update. Here, tap on the 3-dot button on the top right and then on “Choose update package”, following which you can select the update package and then on “Reboot and update”. You can also use the Mi Flash tool but it requires an unlocked bootloader and you might have to take a backup of your data before starting with the procedure.
