Xiaomi Mi Box update fixes refresh rate switching, remote wake up, Bluetooth, WiFi, and more

Xiaomi Mi Box is one of the noted Android TV boxes using which you can connect to your old or non-smart TV into a smart Android-powered entertainment hub. Launched in 2016, the Mi Box became a hit in many regions due to its $69 price and the promise of HDR content at 4K resolution. While the updated Mi Box S is already available, if you’re still holding onto the older Mi Box, you’ll be excited to know that Xiaomi is now pushing out an update to fix one of the longest-running issues on this Android TV box.

Weighing at 134MB, the long-awaited update is now available to download in form of an OTA. The changelog of the update carrying build number OPR6.170623.013.2550 is as follows:

• Improves wifi stability and connectivity for random disconnect issues
• Fix for wake up problems
• Fix for Netflix red artifacts on exact frame
• Improves stability for Bluetooth remote disconnect issue

The update also fixes one of the crucial issues that had peeved many Mi Box users for long. With the latest firmware, the TV now supports automatic refresh rate switching. This means that the Mi Box hooked to your TV can now automatically switch to the best-suited refresh rate for any content on its own, and thus rectify the juddering effect experienced by users earlier.

As noted in the changelog, the latest update fixes previous issues like the random remote waking and improves the connectivity of Wi-Fi as well as the Bluetooth remote. It also resolves the issue of red dots (artifacts) randomly scattered across the screen while playing videos on Netflix.

The update will be rolled out in phases but you can check for the update manually by going to Settings>System information>Update.

This update is specifically for the Mi Box aka Mi Box 3 but if you want the automatic refresh rate feature on your Mi Box S as well, you may sign up as a beta tester for Mi Box S updates by filling up your details in this form.
