The Nokia 9 PureView was announced just last week at Mobile World Congress and it’s already getting a software update. The most notable feature of this phone is the crazy-looking penta camera setup on the back. So it’s no surprise that the first update has the camera in mind, but it also adds Face Unlock and the latest security patches.
Juho Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer at HMD Global, mentioned on Twitter that an OTA update is arriving for the Nokia 9 today. He said the update “has ton of updates on image quality tuning.” XDA’s own Eric Hulse received the update on his Nokia 9 earlier today and it includes a few more things.
The changelog doesn’t mention anything about the camera improvements, so we’ll have to wait and see what that’s all about. Face unlock is another addition and it works as you would expect. We heard about this feature coming to Nokia phones last week. HMD Global has integrated TrulySecure facial recognition into the Nokia 9. Setting it up is the same as adding a fingerprint, but it can’t be used for things like mobile payments. Lastly, the February Android security patches are included as well (even though the changelog say March), which is very speedy on HMD Global’s part. Only the Google Pixel devices and Essential Phone have March patches so far.
