Samsung Galaxy S10+’s first update adds Bixby button remapping and Instagram mode

Samsung released the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and Galaxy S10e just a few days ago. They brought in a lot of unique features, like the hole-punch display, power-sharing, and Bixby. As you’d imagine, this last one is highly controversial. Samsung even includes a dedicated button for its digital assistant on Galaxy phones since the Samsung Galaxy S8. The button is sitting on the left side of the phone, just below the volume rocker. That makes it a target of accidental clicks, which triggers Bixby. It is as annoying as accidentally clicking on the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar of Windows 7.

With the release of Samsung Galaxy S10 and its siblings, Samsung teased the ability to remap the Bixby button. Later on, we heard that the feature would make it into all the Samsung phones with a dedicated button which received Android Pie. Those devices would be Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+, Galaxy S9/S9+, Galaxy Note 8, and Galaxy Note 9. Apparently, the feature wasn’t even live on Galaxy S10 devices yet, as it was running pre-release software. Samsung just released a software update which adds Bixby button remapping to the Galaxy S10+. Here are some of the screenshots of the feature.

There are currently three ways to trigger the Bixby button: single press, double press, and long press. The newest update indicates that only single and double press behaviors can be remapped. Long pressing on the button opens up Bixby, no matter what. As for the remapping, you can set the button to simply open any app you want, or execute a custom quick command.

The update also enables Instagram Mode. All this mode does is integrates with Instagram to help you send the photos you shoot from the camera application to your Instagram story. The Samsung Galaxy S10 devices are set to be in stores starting March 8, which means that all these new features will already be available for you when you buy the devices. You may still want to check for updates to install it, though.
