Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 gets its final MIUI 10 stable update

In a bit of news that will draw mixed emotions, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has received its final MIUI 10 stable release in the form of a MIUI 10.2.1.0 update. While updates usually make us happy, this update makes us bittersweet as it marks the end of official MIUI releases for this legendary smartphone.

Redmi Note 3 users have reportedly began receiving the MIUI 10.2.1.0 MHOMIXM update, which comes in at 178MB in size. The update is still based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but users have been able to enjoy features like Split Screen thanks to Xiaomi’s modifications.

The complete changelog for the update is as follows:

  • System
    • Fix: Updated Android security patch
  • Phone
    • Fix: UI elements for switching between cameras during video calls were displayed incorrectly
  • Lockscreen, Status Bar, Notification Bar
    • Fix: The button that returns you to an ongoing call overlapped with times
    • Fix: Couldn’t restrict floating notifications
    • Fix: Couldn’t use fingerprint to unlock the device when it was locked during a call
    • Fix: The earphone icon sometimes disappears
    • Fix: Scrolling screenshots didn’t always work properly
  • Recorder
    • Fix: Recording status wasn’t updated in the Notification shade when a recording was paused

The changelog mentions that the Android security patch has been updated, but screenshots of the patch level still indicate that the device is on the July 2018 security patch, so we are not sure what’s going on here.

The Redmi Note 3, also known as the Redmi Note 3 Pro in China, redefined the budget segment in India when it was launched back in January 2016. The phone, with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 SoC, surprised everyone with its performance as well as battery life, and set new benchmarks of what we should expect out of even budget devices. The Redmi Note 3 made a very strong statement about Xiaomi’s arrival in India — so much that even its own successors in the Redmi Note lineup could not match the value delivered by the Redmi Note 3. This update, hence, marks the end of an era.
