Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 gets an update that brings scene detection to the camera

Asus isn’t exactly the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, but their presence in the developing countries is still respectable. Most of their userbase lies in the Asian countries. That’s exactly where the company releases most of their smartphones. They are usually affordable, equipped with capable specs for most of the people, and have some unique features, too. The Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 is one such device and it was released just last month. The device features the mid-range Snapdragon 660, a 6.26-inch FHD+ screen, up to 6GB of RAM and, here comes the impressive part, a massive 5,000 mAh battery. The system-on-chip present on the device is fairly sufficient, so you can squeeze a lot of juice from the phone.

Today, Asus released an OTA update for the ZenFone Max Pro M2. The main feature of the update, at least for me, is that it brings the January security patch. Version 15.2016.1901.186 of the system also brings in AI Scene Detection. Basically what it does it that you point a camera to the item and it automatically switches to the recommended preset. There is nature mode, food mode, and a couple of other options which tune up the settings to match the requirements of the specific image. Here is the full changelog of the OTA:

  • Support AI camera scene detect
  • Upgrade Touch FW
  • Improve front camera quality
  • Improve  system power consumption
  • Upgrade Google security patch

The update has already started rolling out, but Asus uses the gradual rollout in batches, so you may need to wait a couple of days. You can check for the update by going into Settings > System category. You can also go to this link to flash the update manually from your PC, but the ZIP image isn’t currently available on Asus’ website.
