The Motorola Moto G7 Mid-Range Smartphone: What we know so far

Motorola Moto G7

Expected to launch in 2019, the Motorola Moto G7 lineup of smartphones has already been certified by the U.S. FCC. The FCC documents submitted by Motorola reveal 4 different device models corresponding to the Moto G7 Plus, Moto G7 Play, Moto G7 Power, and the standard Moto G7. The standard model was the first to leak online, months before its expected launch. A press render from a new, but promising leaker, as well as CAD, renders from a leaker with an exceptional track record leaves little to the imagination in terms of the Moto G7’s design. In terms of specifications, however, there’s still much left to be discovered. We’ll recap what we know so far about the Motorola Moto G7 and then we’ll share our findings on the specifications for the device.

Rumored Motorola Moto G7 Design

Out of the 4 devices in next year’s Moto G lineup, the standard Moto G7’s design is probably the least up for debate. The Moto G7’s design leaked in an early hands-on photo followed by CAD renders from @OnLeaks and finally, in a press render from Mr. Gizmo. The Moto G7 will almost certainly improve upon the Moto G6’s screen-to-body ratio by reducing the top bezel with a waterdrop display notch. The renders show the Moto G7 to have a large bottom bezel with the Motorola logo plastered on it, but it’s possible the device’s bezel will look better in-person. The notch appears to house a single front-facing camera and an earpiece.

On the back, we can see the camera module which has dual rear-facing cameras and dual LED flashes. Beneath the camera module is likely the fingerprint scanner embedded in the Moto logo. The device is said to have a curved glass body. On the bottom there’s a USB Type-C port. On the left, there’s a SIM card tray which takes either dual nanoSIM cards or a single nanoSIM card plus a microSD card. Lastly, on the right, you’ll find the power and volume buttons.

Rumored Motorola Moto G7 Specifications

The Moto G7, code-named “river,” has a model number of XT1962-1, XT1962-4, XT1962-5, or XT-1962-6. The device’s FCC filing reveals a 3,000mAh battery with a model name of JG30 manufactured by Amperex. The connectivity information was also disclosed in the FCC filing, though it’s unclear how the frequency bands will differ between the various models. NFC support is expected, but may not be present on all models.

Lastly, our own source was able to provide some information on the specifications. Keep in mind that the device’s launch is still a bit away, so some of the information provided to us may be based on preliminary details and thus may not reflect the final device. Should any of the specifications mentioned below change, we will update this article with our new findings.

The Motorola Moto G7 is expected to be based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 mobile platform with 3 or 4 GB RAM, 32 or 64 GB storage, a 6.24-inch FHD+ display (matching the higher-end G7 Plus), dual rear-facing cameras (12 MP f/1.8 + 5 MP f/2.2), a single front-facing camera (8 MP f/2.2), and run Android 9 Pie. Like the G7 Plus, the Moto G7 will feature new camera features like Smart Composition and automatic smile capture, as well as existing Moto camera features like Cinemagraphs, portrait mode, time-lapse mode, spot coloring, etc. The colors we believe may be available at launch include Black and White, but other colors may be launched as well.
