2018 has been a year marked by several trends. We’ve seen the rise of notches, which employ a screen cutout for the camera sensors, earpiece, and other sensors. And we’ve also seen other alternative solutions to the “bezel problem” appear: slider displays allow users to hide those sensors under the display, only revealing them when needed. And a more recent one–hole-punch displays–involves a hole in the display housing the front-facing camera. 2018 was also marked by other trends such as multiple camera setups and absurd technical specifications. So what happens when you take all of those trends and slam them into one phone? Well, you get the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT, a device that aims to be a true beast in every department possible.
Lenovo has taken the stage to announce the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT as well as the mid-range Lenovo Z5s and Lenovo S5 Pro GT. Read on to learn more about them.

At first sight, you might think that the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT, the Lenovo Z5s, and the Lenovo S5 Pro GT are different tiers of the same device, but they’re as different as it gets with some odd differences and omissions between them, which is why they’re not named similarly. The star of the show is, evidently, the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT. It is a flagship-specced version of the Lenovo Z5 Pro that was announced a few weeks back, but it’s special for many different reasons.
For one, it’s set to be the first, or one of the first, devices to launch early next year with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, the latest and greatest system-on-chip from Qualcomm which was announced at the beginning of the month and is fabricated on a bleeding-edge 7nm process. It is also the first device to launch with up to 12GB of RAM.
Other manufacturers such as Xiaomi (Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, Black Shark Helo) and OnePlus (OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition) have launched phones with an outstanding 10GB of RAM, but the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT packs an absurd 12GB of RAM because, well, why not? We’re not sure why you would want so much RAM on a smartphone, but hey, more RAM is always welcome. The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT also includes the same slider display from the regular Z5 Pro, which allows the device to reach a jaw-dropping 95% screen-to-body ratio.
As for the Lenovo Z5s and the Lenovo S5 Pro GT, both devices are not much different from your average midrange phone. The Lenovo Z5s brings a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor with a 19.5:9 waterdrop-notched display and a triple rear camera setup, while the Lenovo S5 Pro GT includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC and an 18.7:9 display with a wider notch.
Lenovo Z5 Pro GT, Lenovo Z5s and Lenovo S5 Pro GT Pricing and Availability
The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT is scheduled to launch on January 24th, 2019. It will be available in a single color option, Carbon Black, which mimics the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition’s carbon fiber back. The device will launch in a 6GB RAM/128GB storage option for CNY 2,698 ($390/€340), and it will also be available in a 8GB RAM/256GB storage option for CNY 3,398 ($500/€440). The higher-end option, which brings an earth-shattering 12GB RAM/512GB storage combo, will set you back CNY 4,398 ($650/€560).
As for the other devices, the Lenovo Z5s will be available on Monday, December 24th, together with the Lenovo S5 Pro GT. The Lenovo Z5s will set you back CNY 1,398 ($200/€180) for the base model with 4GB RAM/64GB storage, with the 6/128GB version being a limited edition with Chinese actor Zhu Yilong’s autograph. The Lenovo S5 Pro GT will be starting at CNY 1,200 ($175/€153) for the 4GB RAM/64GB storage option, with the higher-end 6GB RAM/64GB storage option will cost CNY 1,300 ($189/€165). There’ll be another version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage that will become available later on.
