The Honor View20 will have a 48MP camera and an in-display hole

If 2018 was the year of the display notch, 2019 is shaping up to be the year of the display hole. Samsung recently made the Galaxy A8s with “Infinity-O” display official, and now Honor is joining the ranks with their Honor View20. Honor claims their in-display hole is smaller than the competition, but there may be even more exciting features on the back of the phone.

The View20 features a whopping 48MP camera on the back. The camera is powered by Sony’s IMX586 CMOS sensor, which was revealed earlier this Summer. The IMX586 is made primarily for low-light photography. Sony makes use of the 0.8 μm pixel size to merge 4 pixels into one for low-light shots. The result is a low-light photo with a higher resolution than you’d typically get.

Sony’s IMX586 sensor is also great for zooming in on photos taken from a distance. The super high photo resolution means you can crop a photo and still maintain a respectable resolution. The Kirin 980 chip also features the dual-NPU and dual-ISP, which will further aid the camera, along with some AI fanciness.

Moving to the front of the phone, the View20 has a big “All-View” display with the in-display hole, which is only 4.5mm wide. Another thing that Honor talked about is a feature called “Link Turbo.” This is an AI feature that allows simultaneous downloads over WiFi and 4G. We’ve seen a similar feature on Samsung phones in the past. Link Turbo also enables better switching between WiFi and 4G depending on signal strength.

Today, Honor just showed off a glimpse of the View20. We still have to wait for the Beijing launch on December 26th and the global launch on January 22nd to learn all the details. The only other rumored info we have is 6GB of RAM and EMUI 9 based on Android Pie. With all of this in tow, the Honor View20 should have one of the best smartphone cameras of 2019. It certainly looks to be a powerhouse device.
