Mint Browser by Xiaomi is a new lightweight browser with most of the usual features

Mint Browser by Xiaomi

If you’re an Android user, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to web browsers. There are so many available, from Google Chrome to Samsung Internet, there are a lot of options out there. Xiaomi wants to get in on the action as well, so they’ve launched Mint Browser. It’s a lightweight browser that aims to compete with the competition whilst also retaining all of the usual features that you’ve come to expect from a web browser. Tab switching, incognito mode and even more advanced features like cookies and Javascript toggling are all present.

Mint Browser features data compression and allows you to configure even more from the settings. You can disable cookies, disable Javascript, block popups, configure your user agent, change how the app interacts with multi-window, and more. There’s a lot of room for customization for such a lightweight application, and it boasts a small memory footprint on top of that. It’s not really aimed at those who use flagship smartphones, but it certainly can be used on them with ease.

You can download the application from the Google Play Store, and as far as we know, there are currently no restrictions on its availability. It appears to run on any smartphone with Android 4.4 or higher. It might not replace your usual browser, but it’s certainly worth giving a try. It doesn’t appear that Xiaomi has any monetization plans for Mint Browser yet, but given that we’ve seen advertisements begin to crop up in MIUI, it might soon be the case that Xiaomi profits in some way from their new browser. That would go against the whole “lightweight” aspect of it, but it could happen.

We’ll be keeping an eye on Mint Browser, especially as it doesn’t appear there is anything more that can be done for it. It’s basic, it works, and the company can’t really add anything more to it without slowly bloating it. This could well be a replacement for the inbuilt web browser included with Xiaomi smartphones.
