Firefox Focus adds Enhanced Tracking Protection and Google Safe Search

Firefox Focus

Firefox Focus is Mozilla’s browser with a focus on privacy. It was released on Android in June of 2017 and Mozilla has consistently added features. Recently, Firefox Focus received a new design and switched to the GeckoView engine. Today, the organization outlined a few new features that are coming to Android.

The headlining feature is support for Enhanced Tracking Protection. The desktop version of Firefox already has this, but now it’s coming to phones as well. It allows you to block cookies and trackers with more control. Instead of just blocking all cookies by default you can choose to allow 3rd-party cookies or tracking cookies. Mozilla uses Disconnect’s Tracking Protection list to define these 3rd-parties. You can also allow individual websites to use cookies by adding them to the “allowlist.”

Mozilla also announced that Firefox Focus will use Google Safe Search to check all URLs for suspicious activity such as phishing. If a fraudulent site is found, Firefox will display an alert, which you can follow to safety or ignore and visit the site anyway. Firefox Focus with these new features is available now from the Play Store.
