The Xiaomi Mi A2 and the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite were launched in July 2018 as part of Xiaomi’s Android One program, bringing the no-frills stock Android experience to two rather close price points. While the Mi A2 is a rebranded Xiaomi Mi 6X (jasmine), the Mi A2 Lite is a re-branded Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro (daisy).
In the run up to an eventual Android Pie update, Xiaomi is now recruiting beta testers for the Mi A2 Lite.
Curiously, the thread on the MIUI forums mentions the programme as “MIUI for Mi A2 Lite Beta Testing Program”, which is a bit confusing as the Mi A2 does not run MIUI. The Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro runs MIUI, while the Mi A2 Lite runs Android One, so this is possibly just an error.
In order to test Android Pie on the Mi A2 Lite, you need to be comfortable communicating in English and using the QQ application. Downloading the MIUI Global Forum app is also recommended in order to report issues effectively. You will also need to provide the IMEI number of your device in the application form, as the update will be distributed to your device using the IMEI.
The deadline for application is 18th November. Selected users will receive a personal message on their MIUI Forum profile. To apply, follow the steps mentioned in the recruitment thread.
Do note that the recruitment is for beta testing an unstable update, which may or may not even be stable enough for daily usage. There will be bugs in the ROM, and as a beta tester, you are expected to coordinate with the development team to effectively document and report the bug. Once the bugs are ironed out by Xiaomi, the stable Android Pie update will roll out to all users through staged rollouts.
