One of the greatest camera improvements introduced with the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL was a feature called Night Sight. Simply put, Night Sight is like a highly enhanced, boosted low-light mode for the Google Camera, employing AI and computational tricks in order to bring up life from otherwise dark, blurry pictures. And the results, so far, are truly impressive and promising. Since then, the feature has been ported to other devices, such as the OnePlus 6/6T, through Gcam ports. And other manufacturers have also taken jabs at developing their own “super low-light modes.” OnePlus included a feature called Nightscape on the OnePlus 6T (and later rolled it out to the OnePlus 6) and Xiaomi launched a “Night Scene” feature with the Mi Mix 3.
It was previously promised that the camera improvements included with the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 would be rolling out to some of their older flagships, including the Xiaomi Mi 8 and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S. This “night scene” feature is a part of these improvements, and users of both of these devices should be excited to know that the feature is already making its way to your device. The Night Scene feature is currently rolling out to the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S and the Xiaomi Mi 8 in a closed beta MIUI 10 China Developer ROM, with version number MIUI 8.11.8.
Aside from the enhanced low-light mode, which should improve low-light performance quite a bit, the newest update also includes some other minor improvements and bug fixes. The full changelog includes:
- Add Enhanced low light mode
- Restore Portable hotspot turned off after saving new password
This update is now rolling out to users in the Chinese closed beta. If you’re not a part of it, then you’ll have to wait until the update rolls out to the stable branch, which shouldn’t take long.
