OnePlus 6T gets OxygenOS 9.0.5 with improvements to Screen Unlock and gestures

oneplus 6t update

The OnePlus 6T was announced barely over a week ago, yet it’s already made its way to the hands of many consumers. For what it’s worth, though, the newest flagship by OnePlus isn’t a substantial upgrade over the OnePlus 6, instead, it adds several improvements such as an ever-so-slightly taller display with a “waterdrop” notch and reduced bottom bezels, an in-screen fingerprint scanner, and more. But the phone is the first to launch with OxygenOS 9.0, which is based on Android 9 Pie. The update is also available for the OnePlus 6 and will be coming to the OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 3, and OnePlus 3T, but it’s still good to see OEMs launching phones with updated software—especially if they follow up with frequent updates.

Speaking of updates, OxygenOS 9.0.5 is now rolling out to OnePlus 6T users. It is a rather minor update, though, as according to the changelog, it comes with improvements for Screen Unlock (the 6T’s in-screen fingerprint scanner feature) and miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements. One change that isn’t documented in the changelog, however, is that gestures have reportedly been refined for a better user experience. Users on Reddit are claiming that full-screen gestures are working much smoother and quicker than before, which is a good thing for those who got used to this navigation method. Additionally, the Screen Unlock improvements seem to be pretty substantial, too.

If you already have a OnePlus 6T in your hands, then it would be a good idea to start spamming that update button as the quality-of-life improvements seem pretty impressive. If you haven’t received the OTA yet, the update is also available through OnePlus’ official download page.

What are your thoughts on the full-screen gesture experience in the latest OxygenOS 9.0.5 update for the OnePlus 6T? Let us know in the comments.
