Dirac is a company that has popped up on our radar recently. They are a Swedish audio firm that specializes in sound optimizations. Their technology can already be found in some phones from Xiaomi, Oppo, Huawei, and OnePlus. Most recently we covered the announcement of Dirac technology in the OnePlus 6. It will come as no surprise that it’s present in the OnePlus 6T as well.
Like the OnePlus 6, the OnePlus 6T features two Dirac technologies: Power Sound and HD Sound. They are already present in the device.
Dirac Power Sound aims to give small speakers a more full-sized audio experience. Music sounds more natural even at high volumes. Bass is tighter and more powerful. Sound quality, in general, is improved for vocal, music, and video.
Dirac HD Sound attempts to fill in the gaps left by Power Sound by improving the earphone and speakers. It brings a more dynamic soundstage, more powerful bass, and improved clarity. HD Sound is tailored to the device measurements.
OnePlus and Dirac have been partners since the OnePlus 2. The close collaboration between the companies resulted in a high-performance micro-speaker optimized for Dirac’s technology. They also worked with OnePlus on the Bullet earphones to improve the embedded speaker. A OnePlus representative said, “the Dirac-optimized audio experience continues to stand out as a key component of the best-in-class user experience for which we tirelessly strive.”
