We have some great news for owners of the U.S. unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 9: It appears that Samsung has opened up the One UI beta. One UI is Samsung’s rebranding of Samsung Experience 10 and is based on Android Pie. It features a massive UI overhaul with an emphasis on one-handed ease-of-use and a system-wide dark theme. The One UI beta program is already available for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ in France, Germany, Korea, the United States, and other regions. Samsung has not yet officially announced a beta program for the Galaxy Note 9, so we were surprised when we received several tips about the beta being made available for some Note 9 owners in the U.S.
XDA Members Nochlab1 and CrazyApe18 in our affiliated SamCentral Discord server let us know that Samsung is now letting U.S. unlocked Galaxy Note 9 users sign up for the One UI beta. Nochlab1 grabbed the latest Samsung+ APK and shared the below screenshots showing the sign-up screen for the One UI beta. If you have a U.S. unlocked Galaxy Note 9 (SM-N960U1) or are willing to flash to that firmware, you may be able to sign up for yourself.
Thus far, we have seen that both Sprint and Verizon users running the U1 firmware were able to sign up for the beta program. It is possible that other carriers will be supported soon, but for now, only the unlocked firmware seems to be able to sign up. We should note that, of the 3 users who informed us that the sign-up is now available, none of them have actually received the update just yet. Samsung has previously never had a beta program for their Galaxy Note line-up, so this is an interesting development. The official Android Pie update for the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, and Galaxy Note 9 is scheduled for January of 2019. We’ll let you know when it goes live, or if the beta expands to more Note 9 owners in other regions. For Note 9 owners in other regions, you’ll need the latest Samsung Members app rather than Samsung+.
