Nokia 8.1 marketing leaks, may launch soon as rebranded Nokia X7

It hasn’t been that long since the Nokia brand was revitalized after HMD Global acquired the rights to use the branding. Nokia-branded Android smartphones have been wildly successful thanks to low-priced mid-range and budget smartphones with excellent software support. Last month, HMD Global released the Nokia X7 in China—yet another notched mid-ranger with decent specifications. The Nokia X7 features a large 6.18-inch display with an iPhone X-style notch, Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, 4GB RAM, and 64/128GB internal storage for the equivalent of about $245 in China. The Android One rebranding of this phone is allegedly nearing its launch internationally, as marketing renders of a purported Nokia 8.1 have appeared online.

Nokiapoweruser leaked marketing renders of the Nokia 8.1—a rebranded Nokia X7 for the rest of the world. The phone is code-named Phoenix and as you’d expect, it has nearly identical specifications compared to the Nokia X7. In addition to the specifications that I mentioned above, the smartphone also has a 3,4oo mAh battery, 12 and 13 MP dual cameras, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and microSD card support. Here are more leaked renders of the device, courtesy of Nokiapoweruser.

Nokiapoweruser states that the Nokia 8.1 will launch on December 5 in Dubai. It may also be accompanied by the long-awaited Nokia 9  penta-camera flagship as well as a lower-end Nokia 2.1, but there’s no confirmation on either device launching at the event. I see the Nokia 8.1 phone as yet another decent mid-range option which will satisfy those of you seeking a stock Android-like experience. Unfortunately, HMD Global still doesn’t let users unlock the bootloaders on all their devices, though they have opened up bootloader unlocking on the Nokia 8.
