To the delight of many, Google has been adding dark theme support to a slew of apps. We’ve already seen it in Android Messages, YouTube, Google News, Google Contacts, and even Google Maps. The Google Phone app has been on deck to receive a dark mode for a while now and it seems to finally be here in version 26.
It was possible to enable the dark theme in Google Phone version 25 with root or a modded APK. Now, the update makes the feature official. The “Dark Theme” toggle can be found in Settings > Display options. The theme looks like Google’s other dark themes: dark grey with white text. It’s a good look and further transitions all of Google apps to a dark theme. With Google recently admitting that dark themes are better for displays and battery life, we hope to have a system-wide toggle for dark mode in the future.
We will post the Google Phone APK for version 26 as soon as we have one. In the meantime, you can check the Play Store for the update. If you have a non-Pixel device, you can sideload the dark theme APK from here. Do you use dark themes in your apps?
