Google Duo now works on more Chromebooks

Google Duo chromebooks

Google Duo was announced right alongside Google Allo and each of them received about the same reaction. The community was confused as both of these features were already covered in Google Hangouts and there had been a longtime rumor that Hangouts had a redesign in the pipeline. Over time though, things have changed. Google Hangouts is for enterprise use now and Allo has been abandoned in favor of Android Chat. Google Duo, on the other hand, has received a lot of praise over the last year as it’s an incredibly simple video chatting application that virtually anyone can use. Now, more people are able to use it as it is being made compatible with more Chromebooks.

Google Duo was initially only available on Android smartphones, but earlier this year we saw the popular video chat application receive support for tablets. Many have considered the Android tablet market dead for years, so while it was nice to see Google adding this type of support, not that many people were excited about it. However, the next day on July 4th we started noticing a number of Chromebooks receiving support for Google Duo. This began with devices including the HP Chromebook X2Samsung Chromebook Plus V2 and the Acer Chromebook Tab 10.

Now we know that Google has continued to work on adding support for Google Duo on even more Chromebooks. Just yesterday in the Chrome OS subreddit, Reddit user gabriele_tng told everyone they were able to install the application on their Acer R13. This seems to have been a big rollout though as the thread is filled with dozens of comments from others within the community. People who own the Pixelbook, ASUS C302, Asus C101 Flip, Samsung Plus, Acer 15, and others as well.

Those who are interested in this news should be aware that to use Duo on your device you do need a phone attached to it, but we are being told that does work with a Google Voice number.
