Xiaomi has launched a lot of devices internationally recently. Between their arrival in Ireland and the UK along with the advent of two new additions to the Mi 8 lineup of smartphones, they’ve been keeping busy. We caught a glimpse of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite in China back in September with no word of international availability. Following that, we also learned about the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, which features an under-display fingerprint sensor. The Mi 8 Pro came to the UK while the Mi 8 Lite has launched in both Poland and Egypt. MIUI 9 Global Stable is here for both devices, and you can flash it now as a recovery ROM.
Devices | Recovery ROM |

Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro | Recovery ROM |
If you are installing either of these on a device from China, you will need to unlock your bootloader before flashing them through TWRP. This is due to a change made by Xiaomi a couple of months ago, which you can read about here. Both files come in at 1.6GB and feature the latest version of MIUI 9, MIUI 9.6.5.0. Both are based on Android 8.1 Oreo, though it’s expected that the update to MIUI 10 will bring the devices up to Android Pie.
If you do not unlock your bootloader before flashing the Global version on a Chinese device, then you will brick your smartphone. With many of the company’s devices being on MIUI 10, however, it’s only a matter of time until a Global version of it is released for both of these devices as well. There is already a Chinese MIUI 10 available for both, so it shouldn’t take too long. The biggest difference between the Chinese and the Global variants is that the Global variants have Google apps installed along with a lot more language options.
