ColorOS 5.2 rolling out soon for the Realme 1/2/C1

Realme 2 Pro

In May, the Realme 1 was launched in India as Realme’s first smartphone. At that time, Realme was an online-only sub-brand of OPPO. In July, OPPO’s VP resigned from the company to form Realme as a separate brand. Since then, the brand has released the budget Realme 2, the lower mid-range Realme 2 Pro, and the entry-level Realme C1. The company is also on track to release a smartphone powered by the MediaTek Helio P70 SoC. In terms of hardware, Realme phones generally provide great value for money, and the brand is positioned as a competitor to Xiaomi. The company has recently expanded to Malaysia. In terms of software, the Realme phones are powered by ColorOS, which is OPPO’s custom user interface.

Realme has previously stated that the Realme 1 will get the Android P update. Now, the brand has started a monthly thread on its website to notify which updates are being developed for its phones, and their timeline of release. The first such monthly thread specifies that the Realme 1 will get ColorOS 5.2 Beta on November 16, including fixes for developer options’ flashing, single-swipe notification dismiss, and a headset icon. On November 25 “or later,” the phone will get the public release of ColorOS 5.2.

The Realme 2 will get the November security patch release on November 15. The Realme C1 will also get the security patch update on the same date. Both phones are also scheduled to get ColorOS 5.2 “at a later stage.”

The Realme 2 Pro, on the other hand, already runs ColorOS 5.2 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. It will get an OTA update on November 20 or later, which will include fixes for developer options’ flashing, single-swipe notification dismiss, and a headset icon.

It’s good to see Realme providing transparency to its users regarding updates. We hope that this practice is followed by other device makers as well. It would also be great to see the company sharing plans of rolling out the Android Pie update for its devices.
