Xiaomi Mi A2 6GB RAM variant now available in India via Amazon

The Xiaomi Mi A2 is the successor of the Xiaomi Mi A1, Xiaomi’s first Android One phone. Instead of being powered by the company’s MIUI custom user interface, Xiaomi’s Android One phones are powered by nearly stock Android with only a few additions such as the MIUI Camera app. This fact itself makes the Mi A2 an interesting phone. It was launched in Spain alongside the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite in July, and it was brought to India in August. (The Mi A2 Lite was not launched in India as the company opted to launch the MIUI-powered Redmi 6 Pro.) The lower mid-range phone has a decent list of specifications including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, 4GB/6GB of RAM with 64GB of storage, 5.99-inch Full HD+ (2160×1080) IPS LCD, dual 12MP + 20MP (low-light) cameras, 20MP front-facing camera, and a 3,010mAh battery. It ships with Android 8.1 Oreo, and is due to receive the Android Pie update later this year.

In our review, we found the Mi A2 to be a good camera-focused phone in a competitive price segment, and noted that the phone had a high value proposition. Its flaws include the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack, no microSD card slot, relatively small battery capacity, and the lack of a sRGB color mode for the display. In India, Xiaomi opted to bring only the 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant at the beginning. The company skipped the entry-level 4GB RAM/32GB storage variant in India entirely, and said that the 6GB RAM/64GB storage variant would be brought to the country at a later date, without revealing the pricing for it. Now, two-and-a-half months later, the 6GB RAM/64GB storage variant of the Mi A2 has finally gone on sale on Amazon India.

The 6GB RAM variant was first spotted on Mi.com yesterday. It is now available via Amazon India. Xiaomi India also confirmed to Gadgets 360 that the phone will go on sale via Mi.com on Saturday, October 27. The 6GB variant has an introductory price of ₹17,999 ($245) for limited period. After the limited period, the price will go up to ₹19,999 ($272)—putting it perilously close to the 6GB RAM/64GB storage variant of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845-powered Xiaomi POCO F1.

Users can get 10% cashback on ICICI Bank cards on the Mi A2’s 6GB RAM variant as part of Amazon’s Great Indian Festival sale. The base 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant of the Mi A2 was launched for ₹16,999 ($232), but the phone has been available for a discounted price of ₹14,999 ($204) during the various sales that have been taking place this month. The 4GB RAM variant is still available at the discounted price via Amazon India.
