Tasker 5.6 brings extensive Google Drive integration

Tasker 5.5

One of the most valued qualities of the Android platform is having the ability to install apps that allow you to greatly improve your workflow and your life, and simply put, make your phone work the way you want it to work. This is something that sets it apart from competitors like iOS. One of the most popular apps in this vein is Tasker. Tasker does have a learning curve that makes it difficult for beginners, but once you get the grasp of it, it becomes a very reliable automation app, and one of the very few apps I would dare to say is life-changing. Since Tasker development was overtaken by João Dias, the app has been thoroughly updated with useful improvements. And the most recent update includes full integration with Google Drive.

Starting with Tasker 5.6, the app is able to fully interact with your Google Drive files. That means Tasker will be able to:

  • Download files/folders from your Google Drive onto your device.
  • Get details about the files contained in a Drive folder.
  • Signing into Google Drive.
  • Fully access your Google Drive storage, if you want it to.
  • Put files in and out of the trash.

Version 5.5 of Tasker, released some weeks ago, already allowed you to upload files to your Google Drive. Version 5.6 simply expands on these Drive capabilities while bringing other, smaller fixes.

Additionally, Tasker 5.6 removes the Beginner Mode, as it seems it was causing more harm and confusion than good. The newest version also fixes a handful of major bugs and certain minor ones, as well as stability improvements. You can check out the complete changelog here.

The newest version of Tasker is currently rolling out in stages to avoid major issues from arising to everyone, and will roll out to the wider public when it’s declared to be completely stable.
