Chances are if you talk to people within the Android community about the disappearance of the 3.5mm headphone jack you’re going to start a heated debate. There are those who are fine with it because they know it allows for more internal components and/or they simply don’t use wired headphones in the first place. The other side of the argument loathes this transition as they feel you can’t replace that space with anything meaningful anyway, or they just want to use the headphones they’ve been using for years (while also having the ability to charge their phone). Samsung has been one of the few OEMs lately who has kept the 3.5mm headphone jack in their flagships, but a new report claims they are considering removing it from the Galaxy Note 10 or Galaxy S11.
We won’t be getting into the reasons why OEMs have been removing the 3.5mm headphone jack in their phones as of late. Again, that’s just going to start a heated debate in the comments here and that’s not what we’re aiming to do. Instead, we’re going to focus on the transition itself as the community has seen so many companies dropping them. Google infamously mocked Apple for removing it when they advertised the original Google Pixel, but then kept quiet they ended up getting rid of it with the Pixel 2.
OnePlus did the same thing earlier this year when they boasted about listening to their community and keeping the 3.5mm headphone port for the OnePlus 6. However, we now know this port will be disappearing in the OnePlus 6T. This left Samsung as one of the biggest OEMs who has stuck with this audio port, but a new report from etnews suggests they are considering removing it for the Galaxy Note 10 and/or the Galaxy S11. The report continues and says that, naturally, there will be a free dongle included for those who want to use their old headphones, but that just brings up the debate point about listening to music while also charging the phone.
Maybe the company’s wireless charging feature will be able to fill in that gap, but if this report ends up being true, there will be a lot of upset Samsung (and Android) fans within the community because of it.
