OnePlus intends to launch in the Netherlands, according to a report from Dutch news site AndroidWorld. The company has told the website that the OnePlus 6T will officially be available for purchase via iDeal, a payment method exclusive to the Netherlands. What’s more, they are also opening an office in the Netherlands, following a partnership with mobile phone provider Belsimpel for the OnePlus 6 earlier this year. A physical storefront for OnePlus devices has also been confirmed in Paris. OnePlus is starting to grow in western Europe, and their continued expansion into the region is logically the next step forward for the brand.
For those unfamiliar, iDeal is a payment provider which is exclusive to the Netherlands. It’s effectively a Dutch PayPal. When paying, you choose what bank you have, you put in your bank code, the provider gives you a code which you then put into an app on your phone or a physical device. If the codes match, then the transaction will be completed. It’s pretty cool, and a popular transaction method in the country. That’s what makes it significant, and the company’s opening of an office also allows them to have a greater foothold in western Europe in general.
The OnePlus 6T appears to be on its way soon, and it’s got a few tricks up its sleeve. Not all are good though, as while it sports an in-display fingerprint sensor, it also lacks a headphone jack. Other than that, users can expect more of the same as the OnePlus 6. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip, 6GB or 8GB of RAM and a notched display. What changes the game for Dutch users is the ease of payment, thanks to the introduction of a convenient payment method used heavily in the country. We look forward to seeing if OnePlus intends to expand any further within Europe in the coming months.
I’d like to thank my friend Jarno Klaucke for his help in translating the source article.
