Huawei Mate 20 Pro to launch in India next month as an Amazon exclusive

Huawei Mate 20 Pro

After launching the Huawei P20 series in March, Huawei finally launched the Huawei Mate 20 series this week at an event in London. The Mate 20 series consists of the Huawei Mate 20, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, and the Huawei Mate 20X. The Mate 20 Pro is the most expensive phone in the Mate series, and as expected, it’s packed full of flagship hardware. It has an in-display fingerprint sensor and 3D facial recognition. It has a curved QHD+ OLED display and is powered by the brand new HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC. It even has an ultra-wide angle camera, 40W quick charging, and reversible wireless charging. To put it simply, the phone even exceeds the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and the Google Pixel 3 XL in some specifications. It’s already on sale in select markets, but at that time, Huawei hadn’t stated anything regarding an Indian launch. Now, the company has confirmed that the Mate 20 Pro will be launching in India next month exclusively via Amazon India.

To recap, Huawei has never launched any previous model of the Huawei Mate series in India before. Instead, the company opted to take a back seat to Honor (its subsidiary) in India. Even when it comes to the P series, Huawei had only launched the Huawei P9 in India back in 2016, with no Huawei-branded phones being launched in India in 2017.

This year, however, Huawei has changed its policy with respect to making its phones available in Indian markets. The Huawei P20 Pro was the first Huawei-branded flagship phone to launch in India in years, and we praised its class-leading low-light camera performance in our review. Huawei also launched the Huawei P20 Lite in the country. In July, the company launched the Huawei Nova 3 and the Kirin 710-powered Huawei Nova 3i.

Now, Huawei has started teasing the Indian launch for the Mate 20 Pro via a landing page on Amazon India. Users can click on the “Notify Me” button to be notified about the launch. Huawei also sent a press release to Indian media informing that the Indian launch of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro would take place in November. Huawei hasn’t said whether the standard Mate 20 and the 7.12-inch Mate 20 X will launch in India or not.

Like previous Huawei smartphones, the Mate 20 Pro will be exclusively available via Amazon in India. Its pricing and precise date of launch remains unknown for now, but it’s fair to expect it to be priced very high as the Mate 20 Pro is the apex phone in Huawei’s portfolio. For reference, the phone costs €1,049 in Europe, which converts to ₹88,400. We could see it matching or even exceeding the Indian pricing of the Google Pixel 3 XL.
